Ephesians 6:10-18English Standard Version (ESV)
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Have you ever likened an officer's "armor" to that of which God tells us to put on?
Every single piece has its own usefulness. Take for instance the kevlar vest. It protects the heart - the main organ that keeps blood and oxygen flowing throughout the entire body.
The utility belt carries all the tools that the officer will need, i.e. his/her gun, handcuffs, mace, tazer, etc. Plus, it holds up their pants. :)
The badge displays the authority given by the government and state/city/county to which he or she works for.
The name plate of the officer gives the human side - his or her identity behind the badge.
The helmet (if on SWAT) protects the brain that controls all thoughts, memories, movements, and continuous inner workings of the body.
The boots protect the feet from all the carnage that the officer will walk through.
As much as an officer's uniform is valuable in keeping him or her safe and able to do their job appropriately, our spiritual armor is of even greater importance as it protects us from things the unseen enemy will throw at us.
God has designed each piece for our protection and help. We MUST put on this armor daily just as we do our earthly clothing.
So how do we put on this unseen armor? Through daily Bible study and prayer. God equips and fully dresses us for the battles ahead.
He gives us a belt of truth, a breastplate of righteousness, feet fitted with the gospel of peace, a shield of faith, a helmet of salvation and a sword of the spirit. We are immovable!
With this spiritual dress in place, we can regularly defeat those things which come against us, and be victorious in the midst of the battle.
What are you waiting for? Let's armor up!
