Throw Out "Religion" and Put On Christ
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Do you ever just get tired?
Our jobs, families, and/or all the responsibilities each of us have on our shoulders can wear us out, but other things such as religion can also make us tired and in need of rest. Want to know more??
In the above scripture, Jesus was addressing the crowd that was following Him. These people were weary, not only physically, but weary of all the rules and regulations placed on them by the "religious" teachers of their day. There was no possible way for them to "do" everything right that their belief systems taught. It left them feeling helpless and hopeless in ever achieving "righteousness" in God's eyes.
Jesus recognized their situation and simply beckoned them to come to Him - the answer to their needs.
He went on to say, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
"Religion" can weigh us down. Oftentimes it is the rigorous duties and legalism of certain religious institutions that can cause us to throw up our hands in frustration and disgust.
Just as the people in Jesus' day, we can feel as if we never quite measure up or can never work hard enough to achieve that godly example.
Don't give up! There is good news! Christ's death and resurrection broke loose all chains of sin and self. His work on the cross laid the foundation for us to receive freedom through belief in Him, as well as a restored relationship and permanent solution to a temporary list of rules and regulations, sacrificial offerings and burdensome tasks.
He is the answer! His yoke is light. What He calls us to do, He will help carry the load. His Spirit indwells every believer and gives power to accomplish even the most tedious or impossible of tasks.
Does freedom in Christ allow for us to do whatever we want? Certainly not! When we decide to follow Jesus He changes our "want to". We will now want to serve Him...to please Him...to seek Him, in everything we do, say, etc., and He will help us in each of those areas.
If you have been a product of "religion" and are weary at heart, set all that aside and seek a relationship with Christ. He is the source of rest and renewal of your strength. He is the well-spring of life. Don't miss out on the opportunity to have what you've always been looking for...through Him!
