Maybe you’re new to this whole “God” thing. That’s okay! Hopefully this will help.
What we know…
Because sin (all the ways we fall short of God’s perfect holiness) separates us from a holy God, there has to be a sacrifice to take our place and make us presentable before Him.
Think about this way…you are on one mountain top and God is on another. There is a huge chasm or steep ravine between the two of you. There is no way you can physically get to where God is because there is no access. Nothing you can do in your own effort will make a straight way to God. So, there has to be something or Someone, to come and be that lifeline between you and God.
In the Bible, Romans 3:23 says, “Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” And in Romans 6:23, we learn “the wages of sin is death.”
But the good news is, God sent His One and only perfect Son, Jesus, to die in our place. In the Bible, John 3:16 says, “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Even though we are separated from God because of our sin, He loves us. He loved us so much that He was willing to send Jesus (God in human form) to die in our place and take the punishment that would have been ours.
Jesus, though completely sinless, was condemned and crucified on a cross. He was placed in a tomb and on the third day, He arose again and appeared to many. In His death, burial and resurrection, He defeated death, hell and the grave. He now is seated on the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
So what do we do?
Come as you are before Him. Repent of your sins and all your selfish ways. Ask God to forgive you and to make you a new person. Then, allow Him to become Lord of your life by following Him in prayer and Bible study and fellowship with other Christians.
